Invocation of the Spirit is a magical ritual wherein a witch will invoke the energy of a deity, spirit or other higher power.

Background

The effects of invoking a higher power are an increase in magic power. Nancy Downs's powers increased rapidly after invoking Manon. However, since the invocation, Nancy became progressively insane and power-hungry. It was explained that Nancy became unstable because of her misuse of Manon's power, taking it to "a dark place". Sarah was the only other witch to invoke Manon, whose power she used to defeat Nancy and bind her, Bonnie and Rochelle's power. After the ritual's completion, the deity invoked will leave "gifts" for the witch. In Nancy's case, this was beached sharks.

Method

Nancy acquired this method of invocation through abook she purchased in Lirio's occult shop. This particular ritual calls for four members representing a cardinal point and an element to assemble a circle. Arms raised in the air, each participant must verbally announce their cardinal point and element. This ritual also called for four sacrifices representing each element. Nancy brought a snake, Sarah brought a bird, Bonnie brought a butterfly and Rochelle brought a clownfish. Each of the witches then recite a portion of the following words:

"Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East.

Powers of Air and Invention,

Hear me!

Us... hear us!

Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the South,

Powers of Fire and Feeling,

Hear us,

Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the West,

Powers of Water and Intuition,

Hear us!

Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North

By the Powers of Mother and Earth,

Hear us.

Aid us in our magical workin on this May's Eve,

We pray of thee, we pray of thee...

We invoke thee!

Serpent of Old,

Ruler of Deep

Guardian of the Bitter Sea,

Show us your glory,

Show us your power,

We pray of thee!

We invoke thee!

Manon, fill me!"
