Invocation is the act of conjuring a spirit or God and having them brought about into yourself. In one case, Nancy Downs invoked Manon, a powerful deity that is said to be the very essence of the nature. In another case, Sarah Bailey invoked Manon to give her the power to stop Nancy once and for all whilst simultaneously binding Rochelle and Bonnie's powers.

While invocation could bestow upon one powers far greater than other practitioners of magic, it could also be extremely dangerous: if it is performed with the recipient having bad intent, it can cause the one who invoked the supernatural entity to become unhinged and crave more power.

Invocation is usually performed by a coven, via a ritual known as the Invocation of the Spirit, though it can be performed by fewer witches (a coven needs at least four members) - a particularly powerful witch, such as Sarah, is capable of invoking a spirit or deity by themselves. There is a book written on invocation, also titled Invocation of the Spirit.

Invoking the Spirit (Nancy's Version)[]

"Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East.

Powers of Air and Invention,

Hear me!"

"Us... hear us!

Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the South,

Powers of Fire and Feeling,

Hear us."

"Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the West,

Powers of Water and Intuition,

Hear us!"

"Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North

By the Powers of Mother and Earth,

Hear us."

"Aid us in our magical workin on this May's Eve,

Serpent of Old,

Ruler of Deep

Guardian of the Bitter Sea,

Show us your glory,

Show us your power,

We pray of thee, we pray of thee...

We invoke thee!

O sacred one, hear our calls,

Hear our prayers,

Ancient wise one, teach us thy ways,

We summon and stir thee,

Lend us your power, show us your glory!

We invoke thee!

We invoke thee!

We invoke thee!

Manon, fill me!"

Invoking the Spirit (Sarah's Version)[]

"Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North

By the Powers of Mother and Earth,

I invoke thee.

I invoke thee, Manon!

I invoke thee, Manon!

I invoke thee, Manon!

I invoke thee.

I invoke thee, Manon!"

Trivia[]

  • During the filming of the invocation scene for the film, when Fairuza Balk yelled "Manon, fill me!", the tide rose and washed away their altar and simultaneously all the power to the cameras and computers went out. This caused even Pat Devin to raise an eyebrow.
