"Maybe you're a natural witch, your power comes from within"
Lirio to Sarah Bailey

Sarah Bailey (born June 2, 1980) is a witch and a student at St. Benedict's Catholic School. She is a natural witch, meaning her power comes from within.

Character biography

Sarah was born on June 2, 1980 to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey. During childbirth, Sarah's mother died. When Sarah was 16, she moved from her former home in San Francisco to Los Angeles where she befriended a group of three girls roumored to be witches. The girls reveal to Sarah that they are practitoners of witchcraft and need a fourth person in their coven so they'll be complete, and Bonnie believes that Sarah is the one. Sarah reluctently joins their circle and from there, things downspiral. People are killed and ultimately, Sarah is faced to battle those who she thought were her friends.

The Craft

Sarah Bailey is a average 16-year-old girl, who attempted suicide in her former San Francsico home. Now, she is on her way to live in Los Angeles with her father and stepmother, Jenny. She doesn't seemed to pleased about the idea. When she first arrives at her new home, she enters her new room takes a picture of her birth mother out of a box and sets it on a table.

Sarah merrily skips downstaris and looks through some other boxes. She hears someone behind her. She turns around to see a dirty man holding a snake. He asks her if she wants the snake. Sarah screams for her father. He comes running down stars and scares off the vagrant.

Sarah is now ready to go on to school. Her father tells her that she can wait a while, but she tells him that she's ready to start, even without uniform. As she walks towards the building, a lot of other students are giving her looks.

In French class, Mitt, a fellow student is making immature remarks. Sarah says something in French to which the French teacher replies in French. Sarah is sitting there at her desk playing with her pencil when she causes it to stand on it's tip and turn without her even touching it. This seems to be an act of magic in which Bonnie sees. Bonnie gasps as she sees Sarah holding the pencil up with her mind. Sarah looks over at Bonnie and the pencil falls.

In biology, Sarah asks to be lab-partners with three girls: Nancy Downs, Bonnie and Rochelle. Nancy gives Sarah a rude look. Sarah then walks off to sit somehwere else. Bonnie then tells Nancy that Sarah is their "fourth" meaning, she's the fourth witch to complete their coven.

At lunch, Chris Hooker comes over to talk to Sarah. He apologizes for his friends who were "being assholes" in French class. Sarah replies by saying "you are who you hang out with". Chris asks if she just called him an asshole. She then apologizes and tells him that her gaurd is up because many people here have been rude to her. Chris asks for some examples. She tells him about Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle. Chris tells her that they are rumored to be witches and to stay away from them. He then invites her to football practice.

After school, Sarah walks over to the football feilds and watches Chris behind a chain-linked fence. Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle approach her and introduce themselves. Nancy apologizes for being rude in biology. Nancy tells Sarah that Chris is a jerk and will "come on to anything with tits". She knows this from personal experience, telling Sarah that Chris spread diseases. The three girls invite Sarah to go shopping, "Five Finger Discount" with them. Sarah reluctantly agrees.

While walking down the street, Nancy asks Sarah what happened to her fists. Sarah tells them that she slit them in an attempt to commit suicide back in San Francisco. Nancy, trying to avoid awkwardness, puts her arm around Sarah and walks to the shop.

The girls enter an Occult shop and begin to look around. Bonnie tells Sarah to put a book in her bag. Sarah denies and asks what the book is for. Bonnie tells her it's for a book of spells. Sarah asks if they were "really all into this stuff". Bonnie replies "sort of".

Sarah notices a curtain and is drawn to it. She approaches it and begins to open it before she is stopped by the shop owner Lirio and is told that's not for her. Liro asks if Sarah is going to pay for the book that Bonnie tried to have Sarah steal. Lirio gives Sarah a book explaining magic to her. Sarah tells Lirio that she doesn't "follow" witchcraft and Lirio tells her that maybe she's a natural-witch, whoes power comes from within.

On their way home, Sarah encounters the vagrant again.  As she runs away, he starts chases her. Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle, who were on the other side of the street, see the vagrant chasing after Sarah. The four girls stop and focus on the vagrant. Suddenly a car runs him over. The four then flee the scene.

The four run to an abandoned park where many homeless people are. They believe that he got ran over because they willed it to happen and that Sarah is the fourth. Sarah tells them that she does other sorts of magic without even trying. Nancy then tells Sarah about "invoking the spirit" a rite. She then explains to Sarah about the deity called "Manon." A diety who Nancy describes to be "everything". The subject overwhealms Sarah and she runs off.

Next, Sarah is on top of a roof making out with Chris. Laura and her boyfriend leave. Chris then invites Sarah to his empty house. Sarah denies his request.

Later at school, more specifically in biology, Nancy asks who the date went. Sarah has no idea what she's talking about. Nancy tells Sarah that Chris was going around the whole school saying that "she was the lousiest lay he's ever had". Rochelle tells her that he said the same thing about Nancy.

Sarah approaches Chris in the hallway and asks why he lied about her. He tells her that he doesn't want to go out with her. She tells him "fuck you!" then walks off.

Later at night, Sarah lies awake in her bed and recalls her trying to commit suicide back in San Francisco.

At school, Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle tell Sarah that the four are going on a feild trip. The four take a bus to a forest and chant. Afterwards, they preform a ritual that makes Sarah an official member of the coven. They then sit in a circle and cast individual spells: Sarah casts a spell to love herself and be loved by others, especially a powerful love spell on Chris Hooker; the other girls cast their spells. Then, swarms of butterflies begin to surround the girls and realize that Manon was "listening to them".

In French class, Chris turns around in his seat to look at Sarah who was sitting in the back. The teacher tells him to turn around. Bonnie asks Sarah if she thinks the spell is working. Sarah asks if he was looking at her and Bonnie tells her that he was. Chris then turns around one more time to look at Sarah.

On their way to School Mass, Chris is following Sarah and Bonnie. Chris approaches Sarah and feels guilty about spreading the lies. Sarah tells him to tell his friends that what he said was a lie, and he agrees. Sarah then realizes that her spell worked. Chris' friends then make fun of him for acting like Sarah's slave. Little do they know that he's completely under Sarah's spell. Sarah also notices that she has control over Chris and that she can get him to do anything she asks like carrying her books.

At Bonnie's house, the girls have a sleepover and Sarah tells them about "light as a feather, stiff as a board". The girls agree to play and use Rochelle. The girls do the game, and realize that they actually made Rochelle levitate. Now, the know that they have real power.

The next day at school, Sarah pulls out a strand of Laura's hair as she passes her in the hallway. Laura turns around, angry and calls Sarah a "stupid bitch". Sarah smiles and walks off.

That night, Sarah braids the strand of Laura's hair in Rochelles as a part of Rochelle's spell. Sarah explains that if Laura leaves Rochelle alone, nothing good will happen to her. Rochelle sees a picture of Sarah's mom on her bed-side table and asks who it is. Sarah tells her it's her real mom and that she died while giving birth to her. Sitting by Sarah's fireplace, Nancy helps Bonnie in a healing spell to remove her scars.

Later on, after Nancy uses a spell to kill her mean stepfather, Sarah along with Bonnie and Rochelle go to Nancy's new apartment. In Nancy's room, Rochelle tells the others about glamour. Sarah tells them that she could do one. She then uses a glamour to make her hair appear blonde. The girls then grow excited that Sarah has actually done magic before them.

At night, Sarah is awakened by Chris calling her name. She goes out on her balcony to see what's up. Chris asks why she didn't answer her phone, to which she replies "it's three in the morning, Chris". He tells her that he loves her and that he can't sleep or eat.

Later the next night the girls go to Lirio's, Sarah asks how to undo a love spell. Lirio tells her that there's no undoing and she must let it run it's corse. Lirio also tells Sarah that whatever negative magic she sends out, she'll get back times three.

After Nancy checks out a book on invocation, the girls are ready to invoke Manon. They go to a beach and begin. They bring different animals, Sarah's bring a bird. They form a circle of candles and prepare. They then form a circle within the candles and call each corner. Sarah calls the northern corner by the powers of mother and earth. Nancy then successfully invokes Manon when lightening strikes her.

The next morning, the three notice Nancy out in the ocean walking on water. It's an effect from invoking Manon. They then notice several sharks washed up on shore. Nancy says that they are her gifts from Manon and Sarah begins to worry about Nancy.

In the car, Sarah tells Nancy, as well as Bonnie and Rochelle that they should be careful with all the power that they have. She also warns them about the Rule of Three. The girls shrug her off. Sarah asks Bonnie and Rochelle if Nancy is going too far with the power. Nancy tells Sarah to stop trying to win them over. Sarah tells her that she's being paranoid. Nancy then asks Sarah if she wants to leave the circle, but Sarah says "no".

At home, Chris calls Sarah and asks her out on a date. After begging, Sarah agrees to go out with him. Chris then drives her down a desserted road and parks. Sarah then begins to vent her feelings about Nancy,Bonnie and Rochelle and how they've turning their backs on her. Chris doesn't seem to be paying very much attention because of the poewrful love spell that's controlling his mind. Sarah asks Chris if they're supposed to be going to a restaraunt rather than sit in his car parked on the side of the road. Sarah asks if Chris ever wonders where his love for her came from. He tells her that he no longer thinks. He then begins to rub her back but she tells him she doesn't want one. She asks him to take her home, but he still tries to rub he back. She then exits the car and he goes after her. She begins to run, but the tackles her to the ground and attempts to rape her. She knees him in the groin and takes off to Rochelle's house, where Nancy, Bonnie and Rochell are at. Sarah rings the doorbell and Rochelle's mother answers (deleted scene), Rochelle then comes to the door and sees that Sarah's ratted up clothes, the dirt marks all over her and that she's crying. Rochelle invites her in. She tells them everything. Nancy, enraged, asks where Chris might be. Rochelle tells her at Trey's party. Sarah tells Nancy to leave it alone, but Nancy goes anyway.

Nancy arrives, gets Chris up in a bedroom and attempts to have sex with him, but he declines. She then glamours herself into looking like Sarah and kisses him. Meanwhile, Sarah, Bonnie and Rochelle arrive at the party to try and stop Nancy. Sarah finds them in bedroom kissing. Nancy was de-glamours because of Sarah walking in the room, and Chris sees that it was Nancy he was kissing the whole time. He then realizes that Nancy is a witch and Nancy tells Chris that Sarah is a witch too, and she place a love spell on him. Chris tells Nancy that she's jealous, which enrages Nancy tells him that he's done treating women like whores. She then uses magic to push Chris from a window, killing him. Sarah stands there in horror after watching Nancy kill Chris.

The next morning at Sarah's house, Sarah is lying on her bed crying and her dad comforts her. She tells him that it was all her fault and that "everything she touches turns to shit". She later performes a binding spell to keep Nancy from harming others and herself.

That night, Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle use magic to invade Sarah's dreams. Sarah dreams that Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle fly through her window an attack her.

At school, Sarah goes into the restroom to think. While Sarah's in the stall thinking, Nancy uses magic to unlock it and opens the door. Nancy tells Sarah she heard the police came to her house, after Chris had died, and she tells Nancy she didn't tell the cops anything. Nancy asks Sarah why she wants to leave the circle. Sara says she didn't say anything about leaving, but Nancy gestures that she read Sarah's mind. Sarah tells Nancy that she's leaving the circle. Then the girls tell Sarah that since she left the circle, "she better leave the school, the town and the planet. Before the girls leave the wasshroom, Nancy turns to Sarah saying, "If a witch betrays her coven, they kill her." Also both Bonnie and Rochelle reveal that they have been haunting Sarah in her dreams.

Immediately, Sarah runs to Lirio's occult shop pleading for help. Sarah tells her everything. Lirio tells her that she must invoke Manon in order to defeat Nancy. Sarah tells her it made Nancy crazy, but Lirio explains that Nancy only went crazy because she took the power to a "dark place". Sarah beings to invoke, but the girls use glamour to attack the shop. Sarah runs out from Lirio's magically protective place, and darts home.

At home, Sarah calls out for her dad and Jenny, but there's no response. The phone rings and Sarah answers it. It's Nancy telling her that her dad and Jenny thought Sarah ran back to San Francisco, so they took a plane there. Nancy tells her to check the news, and the television set in front of Sarah turn on. Sarah sees a plane crash. The reporter says that the plane, the same plane Sarah's father and Jenny was on, has crashed, and there were no survivers.

As Sarah teleNancy, Bonnie and Rochelle use a glamour to make Sarah think that there are thousands of bugs, snakes and rats invading her house. Sarah believes it's real, so she hides in her bathtub. Suddenly, all the bugs disappear and Nancy pulls the shower curtain back and suggest that Sarah kills herself.

Sarah walks downstairs to see Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle there. Nancy tells Sarah that she's going to kill herself tonight. Sarah replies with: "no, I'm not". Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle levitate in the air. Nancy tells Sarah the she has every reason in the world to do it since she killed Chris and she killed her mom. Sarah begins to cry. Rochelle asks why Sarah won't use magic on them. Nancy says because she's weak. The girls begin to chant. A note appears in front of Sarah reading: "I killed Chris, I'm sorry. Love, Sarah". Sarah tells Nancy that she didn't write that note and Nancy uses a glamour to make Sarah think that Nancy cut her wrists, but Sarah knows it's just magic. Sarah then runs back up into her room.

After hysterically crying, she lies on the floor and begins to invoke Manol. Rochelle and Bonnie begin to run up to Sarah's room to see what she's doing, but Sarah uses a spell to make Rochelle think she's balding and Bonnie think that her face has burn scars on it (much like the ones she made dissappear with her spell). Scared, Bonnie and Rochelle run out of the house.

As Sarah invokes Manon, the picture of her mother begins to move and Sarah can hear her mother telling her to reach inside herself. Sarah then successfully invokes Manol. Nancy then walks into Sarah's room and doesnt see her. Sarah emerges form the mirror behind Nancy and scares her. Sarah tells Nancy that Manol came to her and told her that she's abused what he's given her and now she must pay the price. Nancy apologizes for everything and Sarah begins to beform the binding spell on Nancy again. Angry, Nancy attacks Sarah with a knife. A dresser drawrer flies towards the girls, but Nancy moves out of the way. Nancy thinks the drawrer crushed Sarah, but Sarah emerges from the wall and kicks Nancy into a mirror.

The next day, Bonnie and Rochelle go to Sarah's house to apologize for trying to kill her. Bonnie tells her that they didn't think it would go that far. Mr. Bailey sees the girls and says hi. Bonnie and Rochelle say hi back. Rochelle then tells Sarah that the plane crash was a glamour.Sarah begins to walk off but Rochelle then asks her if she has powers left, because they don't. Bonnie tells Sarah if she ever wants to hang out or call the corners that she's welcome. Sarah tells "maybe" and to "hold their breath until she calls". As the girls walk off, Rochelle mubles to Bonnie: "She probably doesn't have any powers anyway". Sarah turns around and a storm suddenly kicks in. Ligthning strikes a tree branch and it falls towards Bonnie and Rochelle, nearly crushing them. Sarah tells them to be careful, or they'll end up like Nancy (who is now in a mental institution). Bonnie and Rochelle look terrified.

Appearance

Sarah is very beautiful and fair. She has wavy stawberry [honey] blonde hair and jade green eyes. Sarah is very strong willed and independent, but may come off as shy. Sarah is the last member to join the coven as she is a "natural witch", possessing powers that come from within. She is very intelligent and quick whitted as well.

Relationships

Chris Hooker

Through out the corse of the movie, Sarah has only had one romantic relationship. She had a slight interest in Chris, but after refusing to have sex with him, he spread a lie around school that the two slept together anyway. Sarah retaliated by casting a love spell on him.

Powers and abilities

Sarah is a powerful "natural" witch, giving her the ability to access very powerful magic. Unlike Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle, she uses magic from internal forces and utilizes that. Sarah is capable of performing glamours, an illusion so real that it is to fool any on-looker, as explained by Rochelle. She is also able to cast spells, most

notably, a love spell on Chris in retaliation. Not only can Sarah do that, but she can perform and project incredible magical characteristics like telekinesis, levitation, weather manipulation and more. Sarah has shown to have "real" power that is beyond the other girls. Since Sarah is a blood witch, she may be immune to the powers of other witches.

In the beginning of the film, Sarah displayed the ability to telekinetically rotate a penicl on it's tip, although, at that point she did not realize she was a witch. Later, with the combined power of her, Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle, Sarah caused a car to run over a vagrant that stalked Sarah. She revealed to her three friends that when she wants it to be quiet, she'll go deaf for three days straight and when she wants it to rain that a pipe will burst in her room, showing that she's had these abilities for quite some time.

  • Magic: The ability to connect with mystical forces of nature and bend the universe to her liking.
  • Telekinesis: The ability to move objects and people with one's mind.
  • Levitation: The ability to rise; suspend above the ground—similar to flying.
  • Glamouring: The ability to cast illusions that appear real, but aren't; the ability to conceal the true form of something.
  • Pyrokinesis: The ability to create and manipulate fire and heat.
  • Weather manipulation: The ability to manipulate weather patterns.
  • Spell casting: The ability to cast spells.

Entering the circle

Upon arriving to Los Angeles form her former home in San Francisco, Sarah joins a coven, lead by Nancy, a

witch hungered for power. Rochelle is constantly attacked by Laura, a racist bully. Bonnie so desperately wants to be normal and pretty, but feels restricted by the burn scars she developed in her childhood. Sarah reluctantly joins their circle, but the more powers they get, the more they begin to turn on each other. Sarah ultimately left the circle after varioius killings commited by Nancy. In the end, Sarah bound the powers of the girls for their misuse of their magical abilities.

Quotes

Relax... it's only magic. Now who's pathetic?

Manol. He came to me. Saved me. Oh, and by the way. He wanted me to give you a message. You're in big shit. He says you've abused the gifts that he's given you, and now you're going to have to pay the price.

Hey, Chris. Fuck you!
